This was made from a single shot of espresso on my second successful day of making hearts. I learned the little wreath trick from all the you tube videos I watched.
I think I have mastered the fern leaf to my satisfaction and now have moved on to the heart! I switched to pour overs in the summer because lattes seamed to heavy then but now in the middle of January I am back at it. At first I had trouble getting my skills back but then like riding a bike I started to be able to make the ferns again. I have watched a hour or so of experts pouring these and have started my quest to become good at the heart design also. I learned a few new tricks along the way. The key thing that I have realized is that the milk has to be perfect. The better the consistency of the milk the better the design. The quality of the crema is important for the taste but is not as critical for the art. This is where I am with the ferns and then later are my attempts at the heart. I am an inconsistent and don’t always get a good design but sometimes I get a good one. I will keep practicing. I am blowing through a bag of Fairway beans and a gallon of milk for the practicing. We are stuck inside this weekend with a snowstorm anyway!
Below are my fern designs. I am happy with where I am with these.
Here are the first of my successful hearts
This was the very first heart I ever made. It is alway good to see the baseline when you don’t feel like you are improving. Latte art is like learning a musical instrument or a foreign language. It is a slow gradual process but so much fun when you have it down!
