I have looked at celery root in the produce section of grocery stores for years and wondered what those weird things were and wondered who ever bought them. Now I know and they are delicious! It is like a bright celery flavored potato! This soup turned out really good and since I didn’t have fresh chives but had…

Henry’s Deep Fried Big Mac!
This was a side project of Henry’s when I got out the deep fryer out to make the egg rolls for the Vietnamese Bun. Henry concocted some kind of batter to smear over it and dropped it in the hot oil. It was surprisingly good for a few bites. He also deep fried the McDonalds apple pie but that was…
Vietnamese Bun
This was intense on so many levels! 1. The amazingly accurate flavor this had to the Bun I love from Saigon Pearl in Irvine. 2. The time this took to put together 3. The pungent odor it left in my house for days! First off, this tasted delicious! I love the Bun at Saigon Pearl at the Diamond Jamboree in…
Bechamel, Pasta and Keilbasa with Vegetables
Henry made this dinner while we were staying in our Laguna house on vacation. I added the vegetables. He learned how to make béchamel and added parmesan for the sauce. I can’t remember the ratios for the béchamel but he did a good job. It tasted great with the smoked sausage. I hadn’t eaten that stuff for a long time.…
Chicken with shallots and wine
I sauteed chicken tenders with shallots, salt and pepper and herbs de provence in olive oil and when they were cooked and caramelized I added some rose wine and reduced it down. Turned out pretty strong flavored but good. Making tacos with the leftover chicken and roast pork tonight. Next post.
Canadian Salmon with Sauteed Vegetables (Round 2)
This was so good I need to make it again. This time the veggies were zucchini, potato, garlic, shallot, yellow bell pepper, corn and heirloom carrots.
Roast Pork Quesadilla on Moroccan Flatbread
I discovered these delicious Moroccan Flatbreads at the Union Square Farmers Market. They have plain and this kale, shallot and cheddar version that is so good! I used my shredded pork from before to make a quesadilla with it. It was really great! I also garnished it with some of the light colored sautéed veggies from before and the classic…
Roast Pork Nachos
When we were in Utah for Kenzie’s wedding, we stopped by our favorite neighborhood Emigration Market. We were talking to the butcher about this roast we used to buy called a spoon roast. He told us that we could use a Pork Boston Butt or Shoulder or a Beef Chuck Roast. He gave us a container of the seasoning they…
Sauteed Vegetables (light version)
I got my teeth whitened the other day and they said I had to eat light colored foods for 2 days! How is that possible? It was torture. I walked by the farmers market and picked up a potato, an onion, a yellow squash, fresh garlic, a white bell pepper and a yellow heirloom tomato. It was all cut up…
Baked Canadian Salmon on Vegetables
I bought a piece of Canadian Salmon at Fairway. It was more expensive than their regular salmon but tasted amazing. I think partly because I didn’t overcook it. 350 degrees for 15 minutes. I cooked it in Trader Joes Island Soyaki marinade which is really good. From the ingredient list it has soy sauce, pineapple juice, ginger, garlic, onion, vinegar,…
